Text of open letter to the people of the Independent Film Project that reflects the great concern with all the continuity of the Independent Film Festival (BAFICI):
A present and future authorities of the Ministry Culture of GCBA:
Independent Film Project (CRP) expressed concern over the weak and uncertain situation in which today passes Independent Film Festival of Buenos Aires. Since its first edition in 1999, was developed to BAFICI such a way that is now the largest independent film event important in Latin America, as well as a reference for the creation and development of other film festivals and on the continent.
On the other hand, is an exhibition space of the new undisputed world cinema, a cultural event which allows access to other views that the local distribution network of a country like ours can not always sustain. And mostly, is a unique and undisputed for the dissemination and support of the Argentine film copyright, which is not usually necessary to sustain and support within the local government and private circuit.
Needless to say, the Independent Film Festival is also a framework for discussion, meeting, exchange of ideas and reflection on the current cinema as well as the promotion and development of new productions.
BAFICI is a space for everyone and a cultural heritage that should be protected to continue conserving and developing as it deserves.
While this discussion may seem obvious, the Independent Film Festival is suffering from serious neglect, the law on the continued uncertainty of the future edition, the annual ambiguity INCAA support, fiscal instability, the absence of a law protect the event regardless of political whims and the urgent need that legal tool finally gets underway.
Given the imminent change of government authorities of the City, as representatives of the independent Argentine cinema once again reiterate our concern and we urge the responsible charge of the area to operate to remedy the situation Independent Film Festival Buenos Aires .
